Frequently Asked Questions

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding refers to small projects that raise money for a specific goal. Projects depend on the support of their community to be successful. The majority of crowdfunding donors are peers who have a personal or professional interest in the project goal, or members of the project owner’s personal network.

Why Quinnipiac?

Our students, faculty and staff are known for their innovation, commitment and passion. At times, ideas to enhance academic and student experience are considered, but some require additional funds to be implemented. Sometimes, this funding is beyond the budget of the associated university department. This is when crowdfunding becomes an option.

Many crowdfunding websites are available outside of Quinnipiac. However, these sites will exact a fee for their service, reducing the actual amount of money raised and the impact of a donor’s gift.

Crowdfunding at Quinnipiac requires no fees or financial investment from the project owners, and 100 percent of every gift goes directly to the project funding. In addition, gift receipts are provided to donors. The Office of Development and Alumni Affairs offers the resources and support needed for crowdfunding projects to reach their goals.

I would like to raise money for a charity or for a fraternity or sorority. May I use crowdfunding at Quinnipiac?

As part of the culture of giving on our campus, we encourage members of our Quinnipiac community to support causes they are passionate about. However, a project that uses crowdfunding at Quinnipiac resources must be an initiative that directly impacts the university.

Why should I give to a crowdfunding at Quinnipiac project?

Giving to a crowdfunding project creates an immediate impact on the success of students, faculty and staff. With smaller dollar goals, your gift of any size becomes vital to the progress of the fundraiser. Contributing to a crowdfunding project provides you with an opportunity to see how your gift is being used. Equally important, giving to a crowdfunding project demonstrates to our students, faculty and staff that the Bobcat community believes in their mission.
